Prima Dance Academy Principal Hayley Macri explains how our ballet schools helps to develop performance skills and to understand and learn repertoire.
When we established our ballet school one of our primary aims was to develop our students performance skills. We wanted our ballet for kids classes to reflect as close as possible to what we experienced in our professional dance classes. We felt it was important from an early ago at our ballet school that are students were treated everyday like professional dance classes. We do this because we feel this is the best way to help them develop at our ballet school and we feel it is this attitude that separates our ballet school from other ballet for kids classes. This allows our students to develop performance skills, discipline and more importantly self confidence that we feel will carry over to other areas of their life. We understand that not all of our students will strive to end up in a situation where they are doing professional dance classes. However, the skill set they learn at our ballet school will have a crossover into everything else they aim to do going forward.
It is from our vast experience of professional dance classes that we are able to pass on this information and attitude to our ballet school students. Yes, ballet for kids should be fun, however that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t aim for the highest standard of technical ability and performance skills as if they were in a professional dance classes. Again we feel it is this unique blend of a fun environment fused with hard work and technical improvement that we feel separates our ballet for kids from other ballet schools.
Through our elite ballet for kids classes we focus solely on improving our students performance skills and teach our ballet school students a variety of repertoire. We do this with the aim of entering our ballet school in competition, festivals and our own school showcase. Our elite ballet for kids classes are the perfect environment for this and again replicate professional dance classes.
